In 2018 we ran another
successful Melbourne camp. Students from year 6 and above left Djarindjin on Saturday the 19th of August and spent a
week with host families from St Kevin’s and Loretto in Melbourne.
Our students had many wonderful adventures, experiencing life
in a major Australian city. Highlights included:
·
Melbourne Zoo
·
Tour of the MCG
·
Catching public transport – trains and
trams
·
Melbourne Laneways including the famous
AC/DC lane
·
AFL match – Tigers vs Bulldogs at the
MCG
·
Fancy restaurants
·
Eureka Tower and The Edge experience.
·
Of course shopping!
·
And many other experiences that
individual students had with their own hosts.
With all the fun activities that are arranged,
it is easy to forget the valuable life experiences that students gain from
programs like the Melbourne camp.
They get to be a part of two wonderful
schools, St Kevin’s for the boys and Loretto for the girls. This is a fantastic
opportunity for CTK students to see what life is like inside a school with over
1000 students! It is a two way learning experience with our students taking
pride in explaining to the Melbourne students all about school and the way of
life here in Djarindjin Lombadina.
Host families play an important part in
the success of the camp and we cannot thank them enough. The kindness and
generosity they show in welcoming CTK students into their homes and indeed
their lives, enrich the experience for everyone. From this camp lasting
friendships are made.
